Blue tint on scanned images

I have an Epson Perfection scanner. Scanned colour images acquired in Photo mode have a pronounced blue tint. Epson's helpline insists that because of the blue light used in the scanner this is normal and cannot be eliminated, but this has only recently started to appear.

It isn't uncommon for scanners to have a colour cast, and other users of this Epson model have complained of the same thing. You should find some relevant information contained in the HTML-format Colour Guide that is on a CD-ROM supplied with your Epson scanner.

Try altering the calibration of the scanner. It appears that the calibration utility sets up the scanner to give best results on the screen. If your printer isn't also calibrated to the screen, you won't get the right colours.

If your screen needs more blue to display a natural-looking picture this may not provide the best setting for your printer. From Control Panel, launch the Scanners and Cameras icon. Select your scanner from the list and click Properties. Click the Utility tab and vary the slider setting to reduce the amount of blue.

You could also try installing a colour correction profile, gt6600.icm, which should be on the CD-ROM. Copy this file to the folder c:\Windows\System\Color. On the scanner's Properties dialog box select Color Management, then click Add. Select the profile and click ok to close the dialog boxes.
